Pros and Cons of Clinical Trials

Why be in a trial?

  • Access to new options after running out of FDA-approved treatments due to worsening disease
  • Unable to tolerate current medications available due to side effects
  • Been off of treatment since repeatedly refused injection therapy, but willing to try an oral pill medication.
  • Want to advance our knowledge on MS treatment for yourself and others

Why not be in a trial?

  • If your disease is worsening, enrollment in trial with a chance you could be on no treatment (placebo) would most likely be not advisable unless you have no other options. Some trials allow all patients to be on one treatment.
  • The unknown and known serious health risks of an experimental medication must be carefully considered before enrolling in a clinical trial.
  • Have not tried the effective medications available currently.
