About the Trial

This research study is testing teriflunomide, a new investigational drug for multiple sclerosis. Participants will be randomly assigned with two-thirds of patients on teriflunomide (either 7 mg per day or 14 mg per day) and one-third on placebo (an inactive look alike substance).

participant criteria

Qualified participants must be: 18-55 years old with relapsing-remitting MS. Able to walk without assistance using a cane or other device. One relapse in past year or two relapses in two years is required.

unable to participate

Unable to participate if you have diabetes, history of cancer, or pancreatitis. Unable to participate if you have used certain medications including Tysabri, Arava, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide or methotrexate. Must not be on interferon and glatiramer acetate (Copaxone) 3 months prior to starting the research study.
